TIGER MUAY THAI

The largest combat sports camp in Asia by volume — genuinely tourist-friendly without being a tourist trap.

Tiger is the size of a small university campus. Walking through it for the first time is disorienting — multiple Muay Thai gyms, separate beginner and pro fighter areas, an MMA cage, BJJ mat space, weight rooms, swimming pool, on-site accommodation, food courts, and at peak season hundreds of students from every continent. The scale is genuinely useful: you can show up as a complete beginner and find a class at your level rather than getting thrown into a pro session.

The beginner programs are run by Western coaches alongside Thai trainers, which lowers the language barrier and makes the first week less intimidating. Once you've got a foundation, you can transition into the more traditional Thai-trainer pad work and clinch sessions where the technical instruction is excellent. The pro fighter pipeline at Tiger is real — multiple ONE Championship fighters have been developed there or maintain a training base there.

Tiger's reputation suffers slightly from its scale. Critics point out that the volume of beginner students dilutes the authentic Thai camp experience, and that Patong (the part of Phuket Tiger sits in) is heavy with tourist nightlife. Both are fair. But Tiger's pro program operates parallel to the tourist track, and serious students who maintain focus get high-quality training. For a first Thailand trip, it's an easy entry point. For a serious fighter looking to commit a year to Thailand, you might do better at a smaller, less English-speaking camp where the Thai-fighter immersion is deeper.
